Community Resource fair looking for volunteers

NEISD Special Education Department and Family Engagement Services, will be hosting a Community Resource Fair on May 17, 2019 at LEE High School, from 5:00pm – 8:00pm. We will be providing our families with over 50+ Community Resource vendors who will be set up in the campus cafeteria.  We also want to make this a family evening with fun and games! We are seeking volunteers to support the children’s activities area of the event, which will also be located inside the cafeteria. We have a couple of schools supporting the area, but need more games, such as a “fishing booth, bag toss, ring toss,” or any other carnival-type games that would be fun for kids attending the fair.  If there are any NESA students interested in this opportunity to receive service hours, we would greatly appreciate their support! Contact Mrs. Pagona if you are interested in helping out!NETS Community Resource Fair_12x18 ENG-1rdqrwp

Note from pARTners:
We are excited to announce that next Thursday, March 28th, NESA pARTners will be fundraising in conjunction with The Big Give SA via our own fundraiser!  This will include an all-day social media marketing campaign that will make it easy for everyone to participate.  We are currently in the process of coordinating matching challenges that we can use to boost participation throughout the day.  If you are interested in setting up a matching challenge donation or have any questions, please reach out to NESA parent Darcy Scrimpshire at dscrimps12@yahoo.com.

Initiative #2:
North East Educational Foundation’s Big Give will take place from midnight to midnight on Thursday, March 28, 2019. 75% of the funds raised by the NESA campus will go toward our Campus, while the other 25% goes to NEISD initiatives. Additionally, the campus that raises the most funds receives and additional $1,500. The campus that comes in second place will receive an additional $500! NESA is looking for money to buy LED lights for the LEE theater, an initiative that will help the entire campus! This College Audition Workshop, featuring NYU’s Assistant Director of Music Theatre – Program in Vocal Performance, Professor Ryan Driscoll, is designed to assist teachers whose students plan to audition for university-level performing arts programs as they guide their students to audition for schools with confidence. Is it almost SPRING BREAK!?!

Remember there is no school the week of March 11th– 15th.
The end of the nine weeks is March 8th! (Check your kids grades!)

Stuff I found that might be of interest:

Free Art Lecture at Trinity

Béatrice Coron was born in France and lived in Egypt, Mexico, and China before moving to New York. For the last 25 years, she has been exploring visual storytelling in artist books, paper cutting and public art. Collecting memories from individuals and communities, she stages narrative allegories in silhouette to create a dialogue with the viewer in playful fantasies. These visual chronicles record archetypal stories that transcend time and space. Her goal is to invite the public to pause and bring their own ideas finding personal interpretation to reclaim their imaginative powers. Coron cuts her characteristic silhouette designs in paper and Tyvek, and adapts her paper cuts in metal, stone, rubber and stained glass.  She spoke about this creative process at TED 2011. Her work is in major museum collections such as the Metropolitan Museum, the Walker Art Center, and The Getty. Her public art can be seen in the subways, airports, and sport facilities among others.

Have I told you lately how awesome this school is? Just a reminder, we have fantastic staff, students and parents!

Have a great weekend!

-Sarah Pagona
Director of the North East School of the Arts

Director’s Notes Friday, Feb. 15th

Happy Friday!

Remember Monday is a student holiday! I hope everyone gets caught up on work and sleep this weekend.

I have been reminding kids to check their grades and stay on top of their work. The end of the nine weeks will be here before we know it! I have also heard from a lot of parents that they still cannot get into Family Access to see student grades. I have a workaround to try. All students also have access to the Student access portal and their grades are in there. Your student’s login is their NEISD email which probably reads something like name@stu.neisd.net . The students should know how to get into this portal because this is how they registered for next year’s classes earlier this month. I would recommend having them log in and checking out their grades with them! It’s always good to check in with your teenager, be it for grades or anything else!

Fiesta Medals on sale!
NESA pARtners is selling Fiesta medals! They are $10. All proceeds go to support our students and our school. For example, just this month pARTners was been able provide the Visual Artists with two Ipads so they can build digital portfolios and make digital drawings, planning and more! Your Fiesta medal purchases go directly to awesome initiatives like this! Medals will be sold at the We Will Rock You performances Feb. 21-24th. More info can be found on the pARTners website or facebook page.

Parent volunteers needed for new student registration
On Thursday, Feb. 21st we welcome our incoming students for the 2019-2020 school year. From 5:00-9:00 these students are coming to register in the LEE counseling office and we could definitely use a few parent volunteers. Ideally we would have apparent volunteer form each major just because its welcoming, but I will take what you can give J. I believe a sign up genius is going out from Catherine Stephens, pARtners president, so be on the lookout if you want to help!

We Will Rock You

Show opens Thursday at 7:30! Box office hours are Tuesday- Friday 4:30-6:30 and one hour before the show. See you at the show!

Have a great three day weekend!

-Sarah Pagona, Director of the North East School of the Art
