Director’s Notes Jan, 25th, 2019

What a great week! Auditions are this weekend!  We are excited to meet the applicants, many of whom will be in our NESA family next year! Our next application deadline is April 25th for the last audition of the year.

Vote for Mr. Connelly for a teacher TONY!

Mr. Connelly is up for an Excellence in Theater Education Award. How deserving! Help him win by following these directions:
-Go to the video posted here (it’s a new link). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_tNVGaPHp8&t
-Watch it for at it least 30 seconds so it can get counted as a view
-Hit the “like” button
-Leave a comment about David Connelly
-And then share it with your fellow NESA classmates and ask them to do the same. Share it on whatever platform you frequent, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat (wait, Snapchat?) whatever you like. You could also send it in an email to the folks you know.

Senior fee collection reopened/ Senior Shirts

For the NESA senior shirt we are collecting the signatures of all NESA seniors to be featured on the back of the shirt. Seniors- please drop by the NESA office and sign your name on the two white papers so you can be included! Also, vote on shirt color while you are there!

Additionally, we will be reopening the collection of Senior fees. All fees will be due by Feb. 8th with no exceptions because that is when T shirt orders are going in! Checks made payable to NESA.

Our committee chose a shirt design by Katherine Rich that is a really cool riff on the NASA logo and it will be a softie shirt. You know you want one! Dues are $35.

If you are unsure if you have paid, please stop by Mrs. Pagona’s office and she will be happy to check!

Open house

We are still looking for parent and student volunteers for Monday night from 5:30-7:30. We will be in NESA classrooms and the PERC for a casual open house information session. Let me know if you would like to help out! Also, pass the word on to anyone who might be interested in

MLK march

MLK day is one of my favorite holidays. I love the opportunity to march in solidarity on Monday morning with my brothers and sisters of all races, gender preferences, and religions.  We must continue to strive for the freedom and equality of all people. If you have never attended, it is an uplifting event. San Antonio has one of the largest marches in the US!
Monday, January 21, 2019. The march will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the MLK Academy located at 3501 MLK Drive and end at Pittman-Sullivan Park, 1101 Iowa. I recommend using the free VIA park and ride service whose info can be found here: https://www.viainfo.net/2019/01/14/mlk2019/

We Will Rock You!

NORTH EAST SCHOOL OF THE ARTS presents The QUEEN Rock Musical,

WE WILL ROCK YOU

Hot on the heels of the hit movie Bohemian Rhapsody, North East School of the Arts presents WE WILL ROCK YOU, a rock musical showcasing more than 20 QUEEN hits, including “Another One Bites the Dust,” “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “Killer Queen,” “We Will Rock You,” “Somebody to Love,” “We Are the Champions,” and many more. Music and Lyrics are by QUEEN, story and script by BEN ELTON, and an original vocal score by Mike Dixon and original band members Brian May and Roger Taylor.

It is the distant future. Rock is outlawed and nearly forgotten. The ruthless Killer Queen and her all-seeing Global Soft corporation rule this dystopian world, keeping Ga Ga Kids and Teen Queens in a haze of consumerism and downloadable music. Two revolutionaries, Galileo and Scaramouche, break from this soulless world to seek out the secrets of Live Music, with the Killer Queen’s secret police snapping at their heels.

North East School of the Arts presents the South Texas premiere of WE WILL ROCK YOU, following its victorious 12-year reign on London’s West End, where it rocked over 7 million people in a record-breaking run. WE WILL ROCK YOU has performed in 28 countries around the globe, seen by more than 16 million people.
