March 1 is next week! Come out to the !Hijole! Gallery in the Blue Star art complex from 6-9 to see NESA Visual Arts students work in the gallery. Its Contemporary Art month so there should be a lot of stuff to see down at Blue Star! This also might be the students last opportunity to see an out of major event this nine week!

Greetings, NESA parents and students!

Unfortunately, we must cancel the Creative Writing show previously scheduled for Saturday, March 2nd. We apologize for the late notice and promise to bring a fabulous show in May!

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Is it almost SPRING BREAK!?!

Remember there is no school the week of March 11th– 15th.
The end of the nine weeks is March 8th! (Check your kids grades!)

Stuff I found that might be of interest:

Free Art Lecture at Trinity

Béatrice Coron was born in France and lived in Egypt, Mexico, and China before moving to New York. For the last 25 years, she has been exploring visual storytelling in artist books, paper cutting and public art. Collecting memories from individuals and communities, she stages narrative allegories in silhouette to create a dialogue with the viewer in playful fantasies. These visual chronicles record archetypal stories that transcend time and space. Her goal is to invite the public to pause and bring their own ideas finding personal interpretation to reclaim their imaginative powers. Coron cuts her characteristic silhouette designs in paper and Tyvek, and adapts her paper cuts in metal, stone, rubber and stained glass.  She spoke about this creative process at TED 2011. Her work is in major museum collections such as the Metropolitan Museum, the Walker Art Center, and The Getty. Her public art can be seen in the subways, airports, and sport facilities among others.

Have I told you lately how awesome this school is? Just a reminder, we have fantastic staff, students and parents!

Have a great weekend!

Director’s Notes Friday, Feb. 15th

Happy Friday!

Remember Monday is a student holiday! I hope everyone gets caught up on work and sleep this weekend.

I have been reminding kids to check their grades and stay on top of their work. The end of the nine weeks will be here before we know it! I have also heard from a lot of parents that they still cannot get into Family Access to see student grades. I have a workaround to try. All students also have access to the Student access portal and their grades are in there. Your student’s login is their NEISD email which probably reads something like name@stu.neisd.net . The students should know how to get into this portal because this is how they registered for next year’s classes earlier this month. I would recommend having them log in and checking out their grades with them! It’s always good to check in with your teenager, be it for grades or anything else!

Fiesta Medals on sale!
NESA pARtners is selling Fiesta medals! They are $10. All proceeds go to support our students and our school. For example, just this month pARTners was been able provide the Visual Artists with two Ipads so they can build digital portfolios and make digital drawings, planning and more! Your Fiesta medal purchases go directly to awesome initiatives like this! Medals will be sold at the We Will Rock You performances Feb. 21-24th. More info can be found on the pARTners website or facebook page.

Parent volunteers needed for new student registration
On Thursday, Feb. 21st we welcome our incoming students for the 2019-2020 school year. From 5:00-9:00 these students are coming to register in the LEE counseling office and we could definitely use a few parent volunteers. Ideally we would have apparent volunteer form each major just because its welcoming, but I will take what you can give J. I believe a sign up genius is going out from Catherine Stephens, pARtners president, so be on the lookout if you want to help!

We Will Rock You

Show opens Thursday at 7:30! Box office hours are Tuesday- Friday 4:30-6:30 and one hour before the show. See you at the show!

Have a great three day weekend!

NORTH EAST SCHOOL OF THE ARTS presents The QUEEN Rock Musical,  WE WILL ROCK YOU

Hot on the heels of the hit movie Bohemian Rhapsody, North East School of the Arts presents WE WILL ROCK YOU, a rock musical showcasing more than 20 QUEEN hits, including “Another One Bites the Dust,” “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “Killer Queen,” “We Will Rock You,” “Somebody to Love,” “We Are the Champions,” and many more. Music and Lyrics are by QUEEN, story and script by BEN ELTON, and an original vocal score by Mike Dixon and original band members Brian May and Roger Taylor.

It is the distant future. Rock is outlawed and nearly forgotten. The ruthless Killer Queen and her all-seeing Global Soft corporation rule this dystopian world, keeping Ga Ga Kids and Teen Queens in a haze of consumerism and downloadable music. Two revolutionaries, Galileo and Scaramouche, break from this soulless world to seek out the secrets of Live Music, with the Killer Queen’s secret police snapping at their heels.

North East School of the Arts presents the South Texas premiere of WE WILL ROCK YOU, following its victorious 12-year reign on London’s West End, where it rocked over 7 million people in a record-breaking run. WE WILL ROCK YOU has performed in 28 countries around the globe, seen by more than 16 million people.

Director’s Notes Feb. 1, 2019

Director’s Notes: Friday, Feb. 1st, 2019

Can you believe its February already? Time keeps on moving into the future. Before I know it Valentine’s Day will be past, LEE will have hosted Galentines night (donate purses or volunteer with pARTners to sell fiesta medals!) and We Will Rock You will be opening to a sold out house. (Get your tickets now before its too late!)

Thank You!!!

We had a fantastic audition and open house. My #1 thank you goes out to our student and parent volunteers!!! I literally could not have done it without all the wonderful parents. Greeting people, putting out snacks, acting as major reps at the open house. You impress me so much! We had over 75 families come to the open house and I got so many positive emails about it! So THANK YOU ALL!!!

Seeking Box office Manager position

My box office manager who helps run the online system is a parent of a senior and sadly she will be leaving us at the end of the year. I am seeking out a parent volunteer who might want to learn the ropes and take over next year. This position reports to the Director of NESA, not to pARTners, and is mostly management of our online system and ticket reservations. Please email me at spagon@neisd.net if you are interested in helping!

Register for classes for 2019-2020 year

If you child has not registered for their classes using student access online, now is the time! I am attaching instructions to help students register online in Skyward.

Students go to www.NEISD.net and click on the family access link, then log in using their school email and ID# password. (Trick is it has to be student log in, not family login. Moms can’t do it!) This will open Skyward for them and they have a series of tiles, and one tile says Course Requests. This is where the attached instructions pick up and help.

Senior Fees- I am still taking Senior fees until the end of next week. Many seniors did not know that this is how they get their stole for graduation, as well as the T-shirt and senior field trip. Senior fees are $35, cash or check payable to NESA. If a student has a financial need they just need to come see me.

Scholastic writing awards are in and NESA did pretty well! I will post the winners of both art and writing in next week’s notes!

I am signing off to go to the Scholastic Art Awards, which are tonight if you want to join us! 7pm at Say Si

Have a great weekend!
